Who Am I?
Many clients like to know a little more about what kind of person their therapist is. Here's a little info about who I am.
On a personal basis, I love my Italian Greyhounds, Cosmo and Enzo, my Maine Coon mix, Fiona, and, of course, my partner! I come from a 'car family', and I love my classic Datsun 280ZX (alas..it's in storage in VA). I'm also a big fan of the theatre and go to plays whenever I can. I'm a former East Coaster who has moved here and never intends to go back!
For those who are concerned about the educational details, I have both a Master's Degree and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Forest Institute of Professional Psychology, a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, and an Associate's Degree in Nursing from Gardner-Webb University.
Although I have a doctorate in Clinical Psychology, I am not licensed and choose not to be at this time, so I practice as a Mental Health Therapist. I do plan to become licensed in the near future.
I try very hard to be warm and accepting of people in general. I especially enjoy working with the LGBT community, and welcome all kinds of people (those who are not in the mainstream of society, for example). I feel strongly that my clients are the only experts on themselves, and so my role is more that of a guide (and mirror) than as a person who tells people what to do.
